as most of you know my joints haven't been great the past few months.
had a steroid a few weeks ago which was great, but now the pains are coming back.
came off the contraceptive patch as the nurse said to see if the hormoans were causing anything, been off it a month and a half now and they're still bad.
is it possible for meds to stop working? i was completely under control on mtx and etanercept for a year... has anyone else experienced this?
trying to be brave here but the thought of having to find a new med makes me want to lock myself away and cry.

Hi Hannah,

Yes it is possible for the meds to lose their effectiveness, and this should show up in your blood tests.
It may be that you will have to change to a different anti-tnf, or it could just be a blip and things will settle down again.
Sorry to hear you are not feeling too good. Have you had your holiday yet, were you going to Belgium?
I'm sure your rheumy team will be able to sort out what's going on with you so don't despair, and I hope you feel better soon.

Love and hugs, Doreen xx

Glad you had a good time in Belgium Hannah - you needed that!

It is possible for the meds to stop working, unfortunately - my rheumy told me the body just gets used to them after a certain length of time, and they lose their effect. She`s been talking of changing me from humira to something, depending on my bloods. Like you, I can`t say I fancy finding another one that works!

Take care,

Kathleen x

Glad you had a good holiday.

I was on sulfasalazine and after about 18 months it wasn't working much so the rheummy put me on methotrexate as well.I've been the combo for 7 weeks and now at last things are starting to improve again and I'm getting back to 'normal'- well as normal as I can be!! Well worth it.

Hi Hannah
so glad you had a good time when you were away
as for the drugs as the others have said your body gets use to them
I am on MTX and RTX was on MTX and Sulfa but was very sick with that combo then MTX and I forgot the name (one of the TNF) it was the one with the drip that too was not a good combo then MTX and Humira that was great for me for a while
now I seem to be doing ok on the RTX and MTX
the RTX is also used for the MS
may be it would be better if you have a long chat to your RA nurse/doctor to see what they say
good luck with it
take care
Mary L
